Startup Port resources: The OpenLab high-tech workshop

When young start-ups put their innovative start-up ideas into practice, they often need not only advice, expertise and financial resources, but also very tangible things such as workstations, a workshop or laboratory equipment. Startup Port aims to facilitate access to this and offers founders a comprehensive range of these resources from the entire metropolitan region on startupport.de. The resources are potentially available to all founders of the Startup Port partner organizations and universities and can often be used free of charge. This is made possible by the commitment of professors, workshop leaders and other dedicated individuals at the participating universities and research institutions.

The OpenLab – more than just a workshop

The OpenLab, operated by the New Production Institute at Helmut Schmidt University (HSU), is a high-tech workshop that offers far more than just workspace. This includes:

• Workshops for building prototypes and small series that impart practical knowledge.
• Consulting services that offer in-depth insights into prototype and small series construction.
• Access to modern machines such as 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC milling machines, which are indispensable for the realization of complex projects.
• An extended network of partners accessible through the OpenLab to promote exchange and collaboration.

 

The OpenLab as part of the FabLab movement

The OpenLab is part of the global FabLabs (Fabrication Laboratories) movement and is part of a worldwide network of open workshops. It is open to all interested parties – from students and private individuals to companies. The offer ranges from the development of prototypes for start-ups to research and student projects to leisure projects. The lab is open on weekdays, with a special OpenLab Day every Tuesday.
