Artificial intelligence (AI) is a key technology that will not only change many industries in the coming decades within the framework of digitalisation. No other technology is developing so rapidly. The development and use of AI solutions will therefore have a decisive impact on the competitiveness of the German economy. The development of a national AI competence requires, on the one hand, efficient AI research and education at universities, colleges and research institutes and, on the other hand, the development of innovative and economically successful AI applications by start-ups and SMEs. Against this background, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWi) is funding four model projects of regional initiatives for the successful development of AI start-ups in Hamburg, Munich, Darmstadt and Berlin in the EXIST programme.
In the AI start-up model region of Hamburg, the AI.STARTUP.HUB Hamburg is being funded for a funding period of four years. A collaboration initiative between six Hamburg project partners aims to offer leading AI startups from the Hamburg region and the surrounding area, as well as from German and international AI hotspots, a unique ecosystem for funding in the future. Within the framework of the AI.Startup.Hub, AI start-ups with a special focus on Applied AI are to be supported along all development phases: From idea generation to incubation and scaling to internationalisation, the respective needs are to be addressed and supported with tailored support, formats and offers.
The joint project of Hamburg Innovation GmbH, the Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg (ARIC) e.V. and AI for Hamburg GmbH (AI.Hamburg) is being implemented together with the partners Exponential Innovation Institute, MachineLearning in Engineering (MLE) of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and German Entrepreneurship.
