The “Community Booster” initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has selected start-ups from over 1,000 applications from 37 countries to drive sustainable change and improve the overall quality of life of European citizens in the spirit of the New European Building (NEB). On Tuesday, 20 highly innovative start-ups and scale-ups each received a grant worth 50,000 euros. The start-up Breeze Technology is one of four German start-ups that can look forward to the financial blessing. In keeping with the NEB’s ideal of sustainability, the start-up founded at TUHH has dedicated itself to improving air quality in buildings, cities and industrial plants with its sensors. They had already received the Hamburg Founders’ Prize for this in 2017: The startup has been active on the market comparatively longer than the other teams. Robert Heinecke, CEO of Breeze Technologies, experienced devastating air pollution during his time in Istanbul, for example, and was inspired accordingly. In 2021, Breeze was able to announce that the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) was funding their InterLuft project with 84,500 euros. The other three German winners are:
Crafting Future, which develops and produces sustainable reusable plastic products to combat waste and climate change; Schrottbienen, which taps and recycles unused urban mines for secondary raw materials and shortens the value chain with a mobile scrap yard on four wheels; Etalytics, a software provider for energy intelligence solutions to increase energy efficiency and flexibility through data-driven and energy technology processes.The EIT Community Booster was launched in 2021 to support companies with funding of €5 million for New European Bauhaus activities in 2021 and 2022: “The New European Bauhaus is becoming a reality and is bringing the ambitions of the European Green Deal to the spaces, cities and homes we live in. The selected projects are just the beginning. With the support of the EIT, more innovators and entrepreneurs will enrich and reshape our living spaces and experiences” said Mariya Gabriel (Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth) at the funding announcement.
